Florida Redistricting Reform Initiative Receives Major Endorsement

Today, the Fair Districts Florida ballot initiatives received a major boost in the form of an endorsement from the Florida State Conference of the NAACP.  The initiatives, which go to the voters on November 2, are designed to curtail the gerrymandering of Florida’s legislative and congressional districts and prevent the crass political gamesmanship that often accompanies the redistricting process. The NAACP endorsement refutes in no uncertain terms the false assertions by opponents of the initiatives that the initiatives would harm the ability of black voters to elect the candidates of their choice.  As the NAACP endorsement makes clear, the initiative would actually give more protection to minority voters than they presently enjoy under federal law.
